To Honor traditions?

Times change, there is no doubt on that. People also change and their requirements as well. “Play the ball as it lies” one of golf’s first rules stands and in that rule it is implicit that sometimes the lie will be good, sometimes not so good and others it will be really bad.

What has then happened with those times when in a 40 hectares green piece of land we knew we would find lots of imperfections and that we should learn how to skip them? It seems that time has turned grown up golfers into spoiled teenagers who can’t assume that a bad stroke was due to lack of skills and not to the course imperfections.

I remember during the 60s and 70s watching pro golfers and competitive amateurs work on their wedges to get sharper edges to be able to play in high compacted areas. I remember them watching their ball going into a bunker and thinking …”will I have a good lie?”

That’s why I get surprised when golfers say that courses that have been played in that way for 100 years are “unplayable”. And I am not happy with this, it seems that honoring traditions is every day more far away in time.

    Turf Management NY says:

I really liked this post. You explain this topic very well. Your turf management company should offer a professional assistance and advice towards the development and care of your athletic fields. Grounds staff can be exceptionally creative and some have a gift of taking a doomed playing field and turning it into your very own “field of dreams.” These results motivate your sports teams, but more importantly, instill a community pride and restore spirits.
