Argentina represented at The Open Championship

Angel Cabrera, Andres Romero and Rafa Echenique were the players representing Argentina at the most important golf tournament of the year. Argentina was very well represented, as El Pigu tied for 13th and El Pato tied for 24th. Our golf was very well represented, El Pato was in contention during the 4 rounds of golf, but his putter didn’t work ok. Romero’s golf worked very good, a couple of bad holes during the 3rd round were the cause of not being closer to the winning score. It was a great week of golf, Tom Watson’s performance gave a lot of hope to older golfers and it was just luck who didn’t allow great Tom to win his 9th Major Championship.

Now our 2 main pro golfers will rest for a couple of weeks in Argentina previous to their participation at the Bridgestone Invitational and the PGA Championship, golf’s last Major Championship of the year. The game of golf continues it’s growth in Argentina and these two players are very important to continue this growth.

Argentina Junior World Champion

The Argentine Team won the TOYOTA World Junior Golf Championship last June in Japan. Players Leandro Marelli, Jorge Fernandez Valdez, Tomas Cocha and Andy Schombaun were coached by Jorge Morgan as Team Captain and Martin Bartolome as Team Coach. It is the first time our country wins the competition, where the previous best performances were two 4th places in 1998 and 2005 (where European Tour Player Tano Goya was part of the team).

This win is a huge event for the golf in our country, not only for the development of local golfers but also for the rest of the world to know that Argentina has not only great golfers but also great golf courses. We believe this may be the starting point for a great performance at the 2010 World Amateur, which will be held in Argentina at olivos Golf Club & Buenos Aires Golf Club.
